Who it's for

Young people aged 14–18 who are interested in gaining hands-on experience of the world of work and exploring future career opportunities.

This placement is ideal for those who are curious, willing to learn, and keen to build confidence in a professional environment. Whether you already have a career in mind or are still exploring your options, this is a great opportunity to try something new, develop key skills, and get a real insight into how teams work day to day.

No previous experience is needed—just a positive attitude and a willingness to get involved!

What’s This All About?

Step into the world of design engineering and discover how ideas are transformed into real-world solutions that support essential water and wastewater services. During this placement, you'll work alongside our Design Engineering teams, learning how infrastructure and treatment processes are planned, designed, and improved to meet the needs of our customers and communities.

You'll gain a behind-the-scenes insight into the design process, exploring how engineers develop drawings, plans, and technical solutions for treatment works, pipelines, and other key assets. Working closely with office-based teams, you'll see how projects move from initial concepts through to detailed designs and how different specialists collaborate to bring them to life.

Through interactive activities and real-life projects, you'll learn how engineering designs are tested, refined, and used on-site to ensure systems operate safely, efficiently, and sustainably. You'll also discover how innovation, problem-solving, and teamwork help deliver improvements that make a real difference to the environment and the communities we serve.
