Electrical/Substation Engineering Internship or Co-Op (Summer 2027)

The Electrical/Substation Engineer Co-op or Intern will work alongside other electrical engineers and designers to prepare drawings, calculations, and other deliverables to support projects that help deliver reliable electrical power to utilities, industrial facilities, and critical infrastructure clients. This internship offers hands-on exposure to the engineering, design, and construction of electrical substations while providing mentorship, technical development, and real-world project experience. \n

Responsibilities

Complete calculations of limited complexity, with supervision as needed; may include lighting distribution, conduit/cable tray fills, voltage drop, feeder sizing, etc. Develop and maintain Electrical Single Line Diagrams, Schematic/Interconnection Diagrams, Conduit/Cable Schedules, Plans for Lighting, Grounding, Power, Controls, Raceway, etc. Support electrical design activities related to transmission and distribution substations. Support the development of Power System Study models for short circuit, load flow, protective device coordination and arc flash calculations efforts Assist experienced Electrical and Substation Engineers with their activities as requested

Qualifications

Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science Degree (or equivalent education) in Electrical Engineering from a four-year accredited college or university Effective communication skills in order to convey ideas is a must Ability to work within diverse teams assembled from Nexus, clients, and others Proficient in Microsoft Office Excel and Word Seeks feedback to improve performance Experience with AutoCAD or other drafting software preferred Familiarity with Power System Modeling software (ETAP, SKM, or EasyPower) is desirable
